Thank you for your post which I have t...Dear John,<br /><br />Thank you for your post which I have this passed day just got around to reading.<br /><br />If there was anything which spoke so clearly to my own views on what is often erroneously called "mental illness" it has been this.<br /><br />Whilst some disorders of the heart, mind and soul can rightly be called maladies, very often true spiritual experiences and beliefs are caught up in the modern man's desire to control and order everything according to his own will; and are thus labelled aberrations in need of correction. This is one of the grave flaws of modern society.<br /><br />Indeed, whilst in the Western world the prophets are not routinely murdered or improsoned under criminal law they are, nevertheless, imprisoned in psychiatric wards and mentally and emotionally imprisoned in medication regimes using highly dangerous chemicals (which, aside from the damaging spiritual and emotional effects can also cause a variety of bodily malfunctions.)<br /><br />We must be wary, however, of calling every person defined as mentally ill as a prophet or someone spiritual. As I stated, some disorders are indeed maladies which need addressing.
